Alaska’s Health Care Price Transparency Law

Alaska’s health care price transparency law (AS 18.23.400) went into effect January 2019. The law

requires health care providers and facilities to post the prices of their most common procedures.

Visit the Alaska Department of Health & Social Services website for more detail at dhss.alaska.gov.

We are in-network preferred providers with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, and VA/TriWest.

If you are covered by health insurance, you are strongly encouraged to consult with your health

insurer to determine accurate information about your financial responsibility

for a particular service provided by health care providers at this office.

If you are not covered by health insurance, feel free to contact our office to discuss payment options

prior to receiving care, since posted prices may not reflect the actual amount

of your financial responsibility. In accordance with the No Surprises Act passed in 2020,

you will be provided with a Good Faith Estimate of your anticipated cost of services for care in this office.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
